You've gotten your good dog to the point in his training where they need to be taught not to jump in at the birds. The FieldKing Whoa Stake is an invaluable tool to help you accomplish this next step in his training.

This stake helps a trainer get a green broke dog steadied on birds. The authentic BioThane coating webbing strap offers two functions - ease of carrying the stake to the training field and help in steadying the dog once it has gone on point. Simply step the Whoa Stake into the ground, attach the strap to your good dog and commence to flushing the bird.

This is not a stake-out. It is a tool to help you continue and reinforce your training with a dog that has been taught to hold steady on birds.

The Whoa Stake comes with an informational article of suggested applications or go to the Dogs Unlimited Homepage and find the article under "Resources/PDF's."

1 out of 5 stars This "stake" is too flimsy for an active bird dog, 2/22/2013 10:31:13 PM

I purchased this "whoa stake" for use by my 5 month old 28 lb. Vizsla puppy. I took her to the Forest Preserve near my home with her mother (a FC) and her uncle (10 yrs - my best bird dog ever) after I returned from S.D. with the older dogs from 2 weeks of pheasants and grouse. I hooked the "little" dog up to it and then began to work her mother about 20 yards in front of her with a pheasant wing and scent, demonstrating "pointing" behavior. The "little" dog hit the end of the lead two times, pulling up hard each time. The third time she hit it, the steel bent - the lead came loose and she ran up on us. I have not been able to repair it since. The manufacturer needs to use heavier gauge steel. It does not work well as made now if my young dog was able to compromise a brand new -- never before used -- item. A good idea: poor execution.
