The trap, when down, allows the birds to enter but they can't leave. In the up, locked position, they may come and go as they please. Next, the landing perch becomes a varmint guard to block the opening in the up position and then becomes a landing perch for the returning birds when in the lowered position. The perch is heavy gage mesh, which allows droppings to fall to the ground.
